Using Donor Eggs

Using Donor Eggs in Miami and South Florida

Similar to in vitro fertilization (IVF), the egg (oocyte) donation process is a method of assisted reproduction that allows a woman with healthy, fertile eggs to donate her eggs to other aspiring parents.

Egg donation involves harvesting eggs from the ovary of a donor, fertilizing them with the sperm of a patient, a patient’s partner or sperm donor, and subsequently, transferring the developing embryo(s) into the recipient’s uterus. A resulting pregnancy will be genetically related to the intended father or sperm donor, and carried by the intended mother or gestational carrier.

Having a child with the help of an egg donor offers the possibility of parenthood to men and women who cannot conceive on their own.

  • Donor eggs may be suitable for women who have a uterus but have poor quality or a low quantity of eggs (diminished ovarian reserve)

  • Male/male couples may use an egg donor along with a gestational carrier

FAQs

  • As a woman ages and the amount of potential problems with eggs increases, diagnostic tests can be used to help estimate “ovarian aging” by measuring two blood hormones: Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). An older woman or one exhibiting premature ovarian aging may consider the use of donor eggs.

  • Both you and your partner (if applicable) need to be tested for sexually transmitted diseases. In addition, the female needs a full evaluation of her uterine lining, while the male will require a semen analysis. Finally, any female or male patient utilizing an egg donor will be required to meet with our psychologist.

  • IVFMD requires extensive testing and evaluations for any woman interested in donating her eggs. You can learn more about IVFMD’s egg donation program and criteria here.
